Mountain Tailgate Market Association

MTMA logAbout MTMA

The Mountain Tailgate Market Association (MTMA) is made up of the farmer- and vendor-only markets of Buncombe and Madison counties in the southern Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina. Formed in 2002, the organization works collaboratively to promote the local markets, fresh food, and artisan crafts of the area's farmers, artists, bakers, food processors, and other producers.

The MTMA is happy to collaborate and share the tools that have made their efforts a success. Funded through grants from Southern SARE, the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP), the Risk Management Agency (RMA) of the US Department of Agriculture, and the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, the MTMA understands that spreading resources and lessons is fundamental to promoting fresh food and direct farmer connections.
