Why ASAP's Work is Important
Usually, we put the spotlight on the people we serve.
But no one knows more about ASAP than our own staff, so we want to
tell you why we're proud of what we do.
"In this economy I'm proud our work creates and sustains jobs.
We promote buying local and that returns dollars to the local
economy."
-Peter Marks
"I'm excited to have welcomed a steadily increasing number of
EBT (food stamp) users to Asheville City Market. At a time when
more people need food stamps to feed their families, it feels good to
know that we can help them access nutritious (and delicious) local
food."
-Brook Thompson
"With childhood obesity and health problems on the rise and
farms on the decline, it's never been more important to give kids
good food and positive experiences like farm field trips--and I have
the honor of working toward these and many other worthy goals
everyday with ASAP."
-Emily Jackson
"Countless times, farmers, chefs, grocers, and others have
told me how important ASAP's work is to the local food system. We
fill a void by focusing on marketing and helping farmers make those
connections with customers."
-Megan Ray
"Usually a bookkeeper operates in the background of an
organization, but at ASAP we're all involved, and even I work
hands-on to help farmers and tailgate markets."
-Susan Weeks
Happy Holidays from ASAP
The ASAP office is busy with preparations for the New
Year--promoting holiday farmers markets, working on the next edition
of the Local Food Guide, developing new Farm to School teacher
trainings, planning our seventh annual marketing conference, and much
more. We look forward to 2010 with anticipation--and gratitude. Thank
you to everyone who supports local food and farmers, and happy holidays.
At this time of year, many people think about what really matters to
them and, as you plan your holiday gift giving, we hope you will
include ASAP. We help farmers sell their foods locally, so they
can keep their farms and our traditions alive, and we help everyone
access fresh, local food and all its benefits. Please join us in our
important work and donate.
What Your Gift Can Do
Do you wonder how much difference your gift can make?
Here are some examples of what ASAP can accomplish, with your
support: $500 can establish a school garden. $100 can fund a cooking demo on how to prepare fresh
foods. $25 trains a farmer in new skills. Give a donation as a sustainable gift--and tell the
recipient about the good work that will be done in his or her name.
You Can Make a Difference
ASAP serves children, shoppers, chefs, business
owners, senior citizens, and low income people--people throughout our
communities. When you support ASAP, you help your whole
community. You help sustain our rural heritage, preserve our
landscape, protect our environment, strengthen our economy, enable
people to eat more healthily, and of course, ensure you'll be able to
keep enjoying delicious, local food. If you value a local food system, family farms, and
fresh, local food for all, please make a gift--whatever you can
afford--anddonate to ASAPtoday.
