Buy Appalachian Guide to Local and Local Organic Food

Appalachian Grown! logoA Guide to Local and Local Organic Food for the central mountains of western North Carolina is scheduled for release by mid-June, 2002.

A Guide to Local and Local Organic Food will be produced as part of the 2002 Buy Appalachian local food campaign of the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. The first edition of 2,500 copies will be released by mid-June, the official launch date of the 2002 campaign. A second edition of 2,500 copies is scheduled for release during early September.

All information from the printed Guide will also be available at www.BuyAppalachian.org, the most comprehensive and up-to-date source for local food. Farms, restaurants, caterers, and retailers are encouraged to get a free (and easy) web site booth at the Blue Ridge Web Market. Please use this as your web link when filling out your information form. With a Blue Ridge Web Market booth the on-line Guide to Local and Local Organic Food can link to further information and pictures about your farm or business

The Guide will be organized around the three major categories of:
  1. Farm Enterprises
  2. Food Enterprises
  3. Organization
The Farm Enterprise section will showcase local farmers and will feature farms that produce food for the local community and region. The Food Enterprise section will feature restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, bed and breakfast establishments that utilize and feature local and local organic food. In addition, tailgate markets, CSAs, buying clubs, and other distributors of local food will be listed. The Guide will emphasize "green cuisine" --food that is raised sustainably and/or organically.
