Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project
ASAP helps create and expand local food markets that will preserve our agricultural heritage, give everyone access to fresh, healthy food, and keep our farmers farming. Our mission is to help local farms thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and build healthy communities through connections to local food.
Search our Local Food Guide. Shop for Appalachian Grown certified products. Get involved in the Growing Minds Farm to School program. Visit a farmers market. Browse our information on workshops, grants, and more. Use our classified section, calendar, and online resources. Whether you're a farmer, consumer, or work with a school, restaurant, or grocer, join us in reconnecting people throughout the region with their food.
Let's Party!
Our Local Food Guide release party is this Sunday, May 20th! The event is an opportunity to pick up the 2012 guide hot off the press, enjoy giveaways and music by local act Vollie & Kari and the Wildcats, taste farm-fresh dishes prepared by Asheville’s popular local food truck Gypsy Queen Cuisine, and celebrate the growing season with other local food enthusiasts. Find more information HERE.
Growing-Minds.org is Growing
And changing! Check out the new and improved website for our Growing Minds Farm to School Program. We hope the new design will make navigating everything from kid-approved recipes to lesson plans much easier. We also hope the new site will quickly become a gathering spot for everyone interested in reconnecting young children with their food, whether parents, educators, Child Nutrition Directors, or community members. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
What's the Local Food Research Center?
ASAP's new Local Food Research Center researches and tests our theory of food system change: that localizing food systems strengthens local economies, boosts farm profitability, increases sustainable production practices, and improves individual and public health. For more details, check out our Research page.
