Freeze Recovery Assistance through Production of Alternative Crops

The Easter weekend freeze has left many Western North Carolina farmers looking for alternative crops for this season. An informational meeting has been scheduled to address growers’ needs for alternative crops and marketing options. 

This meeting is offered through the cooperative efforts of the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP), NC State University, and the NC Cooperative Extension Service.  This meeting is designed to provide information on saving existing crops and about alternative crop options based on economics, market options, and the needs of those markets. Food will be provided courtesy of Ingles Grocery.

Speakers include: Jeanine Davis, NC State University Specialty Crops Program; Diane Ducharme, NC Cooperative Extension Service; Charlie Jackson, Director ASAP.  Representatives from area market outlets have also been invited.

Who:   Apple growers, small fruit growers, and other growers with crop damage in Western North Carolina

What:   Freeze Recovery – Choosing Alternative Cash Crops for your Farm
