Farm to Hospital Participants

 

As a part of our Farm to Hospital pilot program, ASAP is working with hospitals throughout the region in the following ways.


Angel Medical Center

Franklin, NC
  • Interested in buying directly from local farmers and promoting local food in the cafeteria.

Blue Ridge HealthCare

Morganton, NC
  • Hosting farmers market featuring Foothills Family Farms
  • Promoting the farmers market through the press and displays in the cafeteria.
  • Carrying Local Food Guides.
 
Blue Ridge Regional Hospital
Spruce Pine, NC
  • Included in the Institutions section of The Mixing Bowl, ASAP’s Farm to Chef trade directory.
  • Interested in buying local food directly from farmers and through distributors
  • Carrying Local Food Guides.

Harris Regional Hospital

Sylva, NC
  • Interested in buying local food directly from farmers and promoting it in the cafeteria.
  • Carrying Local Food Guides.

Mission Hospital
 Asheville, NC
  • Cafeteria buys hydroponic lettuce from Madison Farms.
  • Madison Farms holds the Mission Hospital Farmers Market every Thursday on the Mission campus, from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
  • Farm shares, weekly boxes of seasonal produce from local farms, are offered for sale at the hospital. Next year, ASAP hopes to assist in coordinating a CSA fair that will introduce staff to the broad range of CSA options available in the area.
  • The Health Education Center is offering incentives to visit Asheville City Market, including local farm and food resources in patient materials, and coordinating a series of cooking classes.
  • Carrying Local Food Guides.

Murphy Medical Center
Murphy, NC
  • Included in the Institutions section of The Mixing Bowl, ASAP’s Farm to Chef trade directory.
  • Implementing 10% discount for hospital employees at a local farm stand.
  • Identifying local food through distributor Foster Produce.
  • Promoting local food in the cafeteria. 

Pardee Hospital
Hendersonville, NC
  • Identifying local food available through their distributor, US Foods.

Park Ridge Hospital
Hendersonville, NC
  • Included in the Institutions section of The Mixing Bowl, ASAP’s Farm to Chef trade directory.
  • Buying local food through distributor Mountain Food Products.
  • Promoting local food in the cafeteria.
  • Providing 10% discount on CSA memberships for hospital staff.


Swain County Hospital
Bryson City, NC

  • Interested in buying local food directly from farmers and promoting it in the cafeteria.
  • Carrying Local Food Guides.


Transylvania Medical Center
 Brevard, NC

  • Included in the Institutions section of The Mixing Bowl, ASAP’s Farm to Chef trade directory.
  • Identifying local food available through distributor Foster-Caviness.
  • Participated in cooking demo at Connestee Falls Health and Wellness Fair.
  • Carrying Local Food Guides.
