Volunteer for the Family Farm Tour

Want to go on the farm tour for free? The Family Farm Tour needs volunteers. Volunteer one day and you and a carload of guests will be able to take the tour for free on the other day.

Volunteers play a critical role in the success of the farm tour. Volunteers will be assigned to a specific farm for the duration of one day of the farm tour. Volunteers will be required to arrive at their assigned farm at least 30 minutes before the tour begins (12:30p.m.) and stay until the tour is over (6:00p.m.). Volunteers (plus a carload of guests) can take the tour for free on the day that they are not volunteering. All volunteers will be required to attend an orientation prior to the farm tour. The date of the orientation is to be determined.

Family Farm Tour volunteers will be responsible for a variety of duties during the tour, including the following:

•    Set up registration table

•    Accept payments when necessary

•    Make sure each visitor signs in when they arrive

•    Communicate logistical information to visitors, including location of bathroom if applicable

•    Communicate ground rules to visitors, including no pets on farms and no entering private homes

•    Help direct parking

If you are available on June 26-27 and are interested in being a Family Farm Tour volunteer, please complete the volunteer interest form and return to Brook at ASAP by This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or fax to 828-236-1280.

Fresh at Farmers Markets
From peaches to pears to pawpaws, it’s a fabulous time to find fruit at area markets.

This past Saturday was the first market day of the season for vendor Fresh Pearspective, who offer, you guessed it, pears! Their booth at Asheville City Market was filled with Bosch and Seckel varieties to buy and sample.
